Life Before/After Islam (intro)

As a convert/revert There is one question we always get asked.


"Why did you become Muslim?"


The easy answer would be "Allah?God guided me"  which is true.

But for me personally, I have nearly three decades leading up to that very point, where I decided to become Muslim.
I decided I want to share my experience's leading up to when Islam became Part of life.
And how has life changed since i became Muslim.

I Ask Myself WHY?

Too much of my waking day,
Wasted on nothing,
wasted on things that don't even matter.
People who don't deserve my time,
who don't even want my time.
Maybe they are just being polite,
But these are the very
people I invite.
And I ask myself why?
Why am I so blind.
I waste the day,
Worrying about things,
That are not important.
I think i need to reevaluate,
What makes a true mate,
Whats important,
What should I eliminate.
A list of priorities
that will bring me bless,
instead of heart ache,
Without the ones
who keep being fake.

End Of A Day



I put my day clothes away,
then i put on my cosy's.
time to settle down,
With a cup of tea.
My two pieces of dark chocolate.
Supposedly
 to keep my craving at bay.
Thou i do like galaxy
or even a milk tray.

But there you go,
I have to be good to reach my goals.
with the children in bed,
I sit on the couch.
I wait for the moment
to pass.
then i breathe out
with a sign.


I remember my purpose.
and in that moment,
i want to fly.
To be that bird in the sky.
Free to go where ever i please.

I sit and take a sip,
my steamy hot tea.
I switch on the TV.
I wonder if there is a good
documentary.
yes I'm boring.
But this is me.
I make no apologise.
My life is simple,
the way it should be.

I thank my lord,
The one that created me.
I am thankful,
I got to live today.
Today has been good to me.

Diet

I want to eat healthier, but i don't want to drive myself insane in the process. I started by eating fish or chicken with salad or vegetables with some wholewheat rice.  To be honest after a week of that...... I swear if i see another plain meal again, i think i mite just scream.
It was getting to a point, where i didn't feel like eating. I would rather starve than eat another boring plate of food.
 There are foods in some diet with cut some foods all together e.g cleaning eating No Potatoes to be seen anywhere. I'm not being funny, but i love potatoes, there is no way in hell that I'm giving them up for anyone. It must be the Irish in me.

When i talk about diet. I want one that is of the following


* healthy
* low in fat
* high in protein
* Easy to maintain
* easy to follow
* family friendly


As i feel that most diets out there are not maintainable, so i have decided  get loads of different diets together and get different ideas from each one.  But to be honest I am struggling to get my head around it, if i'm totally honest.


I have made small changes so far as follows;

* started eating wholemeal flour /rice/pasta and breads
* introduced sweet potatoes into my diet. My oldest son's response at the moment is "yak"  his not buying it
* trying new vegetables like asparagus
* experimenting with different salads
* iv cooked my first poached egg " thou i did forget to put the vinegar in.
* have two pieces of dark chocolate of a night time, keep the sugar cravings away
* trying to drink more water.


What i still need to do;


sort out a food menu which I'm finding a struggle. also i need to make the effort to eat snacks which I'm not really doing at the moment. I am hoping when my new fridge freezer ( as the freezer bit don't work) comes next week i can get more organised, At the moment everything is in the chess freezer and i cant see what iv got.

Avocado And Pear Smoothie





Ingredients


  • 1 pear
  • 1 avocado
  • 100ml Orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt ( Greek yogurt better)
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 teaspoon Flaxseed







Directions

  • remove pips and core from pear, cut up
  • take avocado out of skin
  • add all ingredients
  • and blend until smooth
